Don't Waste Your Time and Money on Unprofitable Affiliate Programs

How can you stack the deck in your favor when choosing an Affiliate Program?

Building a home based business around one or more Affiliate Programs starts with sound business investigations.

These investigations, if done with care, will give you an advantage and give you that stacked deck.

What exactly are these *investigations*?

These investigations will include the following....

1. Commissions - How much is the pay out?
2. Product/Service - Is it in demand?
3. Support/Training - Do they provide any?

The most important investigation should be how much the Owners of the Affiliate Program pay you per sale.

Study their compensation figures. If they are paying you less than 10% of the price don't even consider joining it or wasting your time promoting it.

Your time is valuable. Why spend hours promoting if you only earn at most a few dollars per sale?

You will be spending alot of your time marketing and promoting, especially if you're advertising budget is next to nothing.

You can advertise for free on the net, but the free methods aren't as effective as they once were. If you don't spend anything on promotion you will find it an uphill climb to generate sales.

So don't waste your time or money on low paying Affiliate Programs.

The second investigation is all about what the product or service is that you would be selling.

Is it something you already own or use? Do you get any benefit from using it?

If you don't believe in it, or own it, you won't have much success selling it.

You may believe in it, even use it yourself, but is it in demand? This means, are there alot of people who want and need it?

If the target market isn't large enough you won't make alot of sales. And no sales means no commissions.

Be thorough in evaluating the product/service. Time spent doing this may save you from wasting your time and money marketing something that will be hard to sell.

The last thing you need to look at is whether the Affiliate Program owner offers any support and training.

Is there simply an email address you use to get questions answered? And how long will it take to get an answer?

Or is there also a comprehensive FAQ (frequently asked questions) webpage?

Do they send out a tips ezine to show you marketing methods that work? Do they offer any online stats?
Do they have a marketing resource center? Do they offer an affiliate manual or just a few banners and classified ad copy?

Find out how much *real* support and training you will get.

You should not feel like you would be on your own to figure everything out. You should feel like there's help available whenever you need it. You should be treated like a partner in success.

Don't base your choice on whether the program is free to join or not.

Did you realize that only a small percentage of free to join program affiliates actually make any money?
Yet those that have a small up front cost have higher percentages of affiliates that get checks?

Some very good Affiliate Programs either require you to purchase the product/service or to purchase their comprehensive training manual.

Why the cost?

It's common knowledge that if you don't *own* the product or use the service you won't be as effective a salesperson as those who do.

Just ask any of the top salesmen/saleswomen. Even one of the greatest salesman in the world, Zig Ziglar, will tell you this.

If an Affiliate Owner requires you to purchase their training manual they are simply putting the odds in your favor, that you are a serious business person and will profit with their program.

Selling you a training manual does two things...
1. Insures you are serious about working the business.
2. Insures you actually read the training manual.

You'd be surprised how many people are given, for free, training manuals and they can't even be bothered to study it.

If there's a cost involved I'm sure you'd read it. It's called *perceived value*.

Now you know the top 3 investigations you need to make when choosing an Affiliate Program.

Making a thoughtful evaluation of a program won't guarantee your success but it sure will stack your deck.
